This is entitled Affreux Belges, Le Congo, 1961, and the Affreux(which means Horrors or Terrors in French)was a name given to the European and South African mercenaries who fought on behalf on the breakaway government of Katanga(now Shaba Province)in the North-Eastern section of what is to-day the Democratic Republic of Congo, but was known at the time as the Republic of the Congo(Leopoldville). These mercenaries, under various leaders, would continue to be active until 1967, when the government of President Joseph Mobutu, which had used them to fight Marxist-Leninist rebels in Katanga in 1965, crushed a revolt by these mercenaries and pitched them out of the country.
