Another LA Times article, this one by Anne K. Ream on the emergence of the "modesty movement" for young women in this country in the past few years.
Ream's contention, which I agree with, is that this "modesty" movement, while allegedly empowering young women by encouraging them to dress in more conservative clothing, saying no to sex, etc, is really another way of controlling young women's attitudes, dress and behaviour, while placing no such obligations on men, young, middle-aged or old, to change their attitudes and behaviour towards girls and women.
It's the same old double-standard game, just with "empowering" pseudo-feminist language tacked on.

The article by Anne Ream in the Los Angeles Times about the modesty movement is a reminder that the idea that boys will be boys and girls need to be passive is still alive and well. Talk about a double standard.
